Hi! I've got three chicks and am looking to expand our flock to 6 within the next few months. I joined to look for advice on breeds to mix together in my flock, but I'm also looking for info on improving my coop/run.

Right now we have two Black Stars (sometimes called Black Sex Links) and one Amberlink (also a sex link). We chose them so that we can have the experience of raising chicks while trying to ensure we've got pullets. I'll be looking for info on which breeds can live happily with these!

My husband and I have been planning on getting chickens within the year (we're teachers, so summer seemed like the best time), but now that we're stuck at home anyway, we decided to move ahead with our plans. My 5 year old has been so wonderful about helping care for them, and she particularly bonded with the Amberlink, which is the sweetest of the bunch so far. I love watching her interact with "Rainbow Lightning."

Feel free to drop any advice about breeds to get! We're looking to add a Speckled Sussex, Buff Orpington, and/or maybe a Faverolle or a type of Wyandotte, depending on what's available at a local farm. They'd be about 6 month old (ish) when we could pick them up, so feel free to give advice on any aspect of the breeds or mixing them in with our babies, who would be around 4-6 months old when we plan to bring others home.

I'm looking forward to reading all of the topics!
