(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am somewhat new to chickens. Various relatives have kept them and I've "chicken sat" for friends for a couple days at a time. My husband has more experience. My MIL keeps chickens and recently acquired a chick from a friend, no info about where it came from. It is very too small and she was afraid to put it out with her bigger hens, long story short: we went to visit last weekend and the chick came home with us.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Just the 1, but we 2ould like to find her a friend or 2.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Unknown. MIL thinks Dutch Bantam.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Looking forward to eggs. But right now just happy to watch her hanging out in the yard. I like that my kids are learning about where our food comes from.,
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, sewing, painting. I spend a lot of time with my kids.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I have 2 kids, 5 and 7. We are both biologists so our house has a tendency towards petting zoo at times. Presently in addition to the chicken there's an old dog, a pair of Guinea pigs, gecko, anole, tree frog, hognose snake, and a few fish. And unofficially the toad that lives in the flower box.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
