(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? First time chicken owner and I've had them for a year!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 9 hens. Four 4 year olds and five 4 month olds
(3) What breeds do you have?
Ameraucanas and Black Australorps (bought Ameraucana chicks from TSC butttt they turned out as Australorps)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Fun to take care of. We like eating the fresh eggs. Excited to have our kids grow up taking care of animals.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We have a decent sized backyard vegetable garden that we spend most of our time on in the warm months.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I have a sub year baby and 3 cats. We live in the suburbs but talked about having chickens. One day the opportunity presented itself to get some adult hens and we took it as a sign.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Searching the Internet for the answers to the inevitable questions that pop up when's you're a first time chicken owner and I found so many in this forum!
