Hi, I’m needing help with my Pekin duck. I noticed her tail looked weird, apparently her feathers fell out of her tail area. I looked at her tail and it’s like it’s decaying/ate around. It’s very hard to explain, I got a bad picture of where it’s located. I can possibly get a new picture. I’ve been spraying it with Vetricyn twice a day and keeping clean water. I don’t know if it’s lice or mites or pecking its tail to no end. I’ve done tons of research and no comparisons..

The lesion is in shadow and detail cannot be seen. Retake the photo with a light shining on the lesion. Be sure it's well focused.

I agree with @StinkyAcres that it may be an infected preen gland. Clean it well with soap and water, using a warm compress to soften it. Then keep it moist with triple antibiotic wound ointment or Neosporin.

Update: I’ve been using vetricyn twice daily for the past 3-5 days and it looks so much better and new feathers coming in but it smells. I made a vet appt Friday to see what’s going on, I’ll update then. Thanks in advance
