Betty my roo has been laying around all day today. He is 6 mo old. About 5lbs. He is a bcm. There are no other signs of sickness other than his head down and him laying around. No weezing, bumblefoot, sneezing, etc. He was active and mating his ladies yesterday. I checked him over for injuries and found none. Zero parasites as well. I gave him an intramuscular shot of Noromycin 300 because it’s what was available as well as some poultry booster vitamins. I did order some tylosin as well. Anything else I can do besides wait?

Do you have photos of Betty and his poop?

What's his crop like?

If he's just laying around, then he's not eating/drinking correct? Work on getting him hydrated, offer sugar water or electrolytes.

His poop is runny but no worms or funky colors. I have been giving him electrolytes. He’ll let me hold him and syringe feed him liquid. He will also peck at what’s around him. Crop is empty when I checked before lock up. He did get on the lowest roost bar. He’s normally at the very top but at least he’s not laying on the ground and he’s moving around a little.

Wow, he looks very weak. Can he lift his head up? I agree that trying to get him drinking water and eating some mushy wet chicken feed from a small cup up to his beak would be good. Sugar water, 1 tsp per cup, or electrolytes/vitamins would be helpful. Is he having problems with his balance or walking? Was he vaccinated for Mareks? Are there any things in the yard such as moldy food, plants or eaten from a compost bed, that could have made sick? Tube feeding him fluids can be done if you wish to learn that. Feeding tubes are available from Amazon, and a vet could sell one or give him fluids under his skin. Here is a tube feeding set:

How's he doing now?

Betty seems to be doing better. He was up and around yesterday. He’s back to crowing so I know he feels a bit better. I’m still giving him vitamins and I’ll probably give him another round of antibiotics Wednesday as the instructions for it were a shot every three days.

Yard is clean and the compost is blocked off. As for vaccination I’m not sure as I got him from a breeder. He can walk but it’s slow and he won’t pick his head up.

But update for today (9/17)is he’s doing better. He’s back to crowing and walking around the yard with his head up. I’m still pushing vitamins and I’ll probably do another round of antibiotics tomorrow. He’s still sleeping on the lower roosting bar and not his normal top so that worries me.
