Try to relax and don't forget to breathe. Being very tense while handling the chicken, will make it nervous and anxious.

So it is important to calm down before starting on the foot.

My FFA advisor helped me. We did something similar to that. I soaked in in epson salt water to disinfect it. Sprayed it with Veterycen. Then I lightly wrapped it. I am going to get her some soft paper bedding. I am supposed to take the wrap of tomorrow and let it heal some without being wrapped. I am talking her home tomorrow to better treat her. I don’t want to do surgery on her so I hope this all works.

Someone please

Just a quick future tip - include photos of both the chicken's good foot and bad foot to compare changes, especially when you're noting a color change - this is a good thing to do whether it's an eye, a leg, so on and so on so we can see what's normal for that bird.

The main thing from here on out is keeping that foot clean. If she's going to go out for a while with the flock outside of her clean environment, then I would wrap the foot - ointment to keep the pad from sticking, a non-stick pad over the wound, then gauze around the injured area to hold the pad in place, and vet wrap around each toe, the pad, and up the leg to ensure it stays on. Then unwrap when she comes back to the clean area so air can do its thing.

Overall it looks really good - now it's just a matter of letting it heal.

Oops sorry I thought I uploaded them. There is the good-ish foot next to the bad one.

She is coming home tomorrow (she lives at my school and I go every day) so I can take better care of her. I got her some paper bedding so it will be softer on her feet and I like to use it on my hurt birds. I will post some more pictures later when I go to check on her again. Anyone know what store has 0.5 inch veg wrap? I can only find 2 inch at Walmart and I am cutting it into 4 strips so it fits.
