Hello! I just got two adult canaries yesterday, not sure their exact age but full size. One of them had a broken foot, with it's back toe, the one that points backwards, pointing to the front on one of its legs, with its claw being very very over grown, so I tried to cut it with a nail clipper and I was aiming for just the tip but as it jittered I cut off most of its claw, and then blood started leaking, I put a tissue to it and a very gentle pressure and it slowed down, and now I think it has stopped (around 12 hours after incident). But it's still wet with blood just not dripping anymore, and now I have no idea what to do. How do I fix that toe? How do I stop the bleeding? It's very obvious it's causing him a lot of pain as he stands on one leg and when i went to catch him earlier today to apply some antispetic cream he was very easy to catch.

His keeping it hidden in his fluff 😔 been hiding it since yesterday now

No problem! You just cut off the nail not the toes itself, right? If it starts bleeding again corn starch or flour can be used to stop the bleeding.

Yeah it's just the nail, also what should I do about his back toe going the wrong way....?

That’s a lot of blood lost for such a small bird. Is he okay now? I’d suggest keeping styptic powder on hand for if this happens again, and learning a proper way to hold small birds for nail trims. As for the toe position, it’s likely permanent - see a vet to verify this.
