Needing advice! A neighbors coonhound attacked my chicken. He bit under her left wing and bottom under her vent. They are deep wounds and possibly two bones showing. There’s no vet near us that can take her. I’ve cleaned wound and put non medicated neosporin on and then vetericyn spray on it. She is inside separated in a quiet dark place. Is there anything else I can do?? I have erythromycin on hand and chicken electrolytes I can put in water. If these are rib bones or some kind of lower bones showing can she still make it? I’m so upset, this was my baby.

Sorry about your chicken. Pictures would be helpful. Reapply Vetericyn or saline twice a day and then Neosporin on top of that to keep it from drying out. Keep her separated, and a wire dog crate with food and water is good. If the wound smells bad or develops pus or infection, get some Hibiclens at Walmart first aid aisle or chlorhexidene, and dilute with a small amount of water and clean the wound. Then go back to the usual treatment. Does she seem to be able to stand up, and is she eating or drinking? A tsp of sugar in an 8 ounce cup of water or electrolytes is good to treat for shock.
