I am on day 11 of incubating chicken eggs, using the hovabator genesis 1588. I got a thermoworks thermometer because I knew from the beginning my machine was having odd temperature fluxes. The thermometer is calibrated and accurate via ice test. But the towards the top is reading at 101° while the bottoms highest reading was 98.8°! What is wrong with my machine and how to fix asap so it doesn’t corrupt my hatch? And yes, the fan is working!

I also have a hovabator 2370. Should I switch the lids and calibrate that one with the thermometer?

I’ve noticed a differential of a degree or two between my two or three thermometers across three different incubators this season, and the temp stays steady even when I rotate thermometers around so it is the temp not the thermometers. Probably normal microclimactic changes within and around the incubator and not much you can do about it save to rotate where the eggs are spatially so they all develop at the same rate, just make sure your temp range stays between 98.5-100.5F and you should be okay. I did have to replace one incubator as it couldn’t get above 98.5, I have another that is set for 101f and maintains at 99.5.

I rotate the eggs around, my incubator some bit warmer cooler spots in it.
I use a farm innovator and 2 temp sensors.

We have a NR360 and have been rotating the 6 eggs in the center to the outside, as it seems the outer ring (16 eggs), is almost a degree higher. All the eggs are numbered, I mark down which are in center then in about 8 hours, switch the center 6 to the outside and replace them with 6 outer ring eggs. Ex. #s 1-6 in center, 8 hours later, #s 7-12 in center etc. It takes about 4 min 3 times a day. Not sure if I "need" to do it but I began Wed night at the beginning of Day 4.
