I might be going crazy but two of my duck eggs have very low air cells like they drop just before hatching and I can clearly see one of them pushing against the membrane with its beak. (It's doing some kind of shadow inside the air cell) This is a very small Pekin duck egg ( size of a normal chicken egg) can smaller egg hatch earlier? The other bigger eggs don't have that big of an air cell.
It's only day 22 today and my incubator won't go higher then 37,5(multiple thermometer) so it did not develop too quick it could even hatch a little late. Humidity was pretty much 45% all along and I'm still turning them 3 times a day.

Can someone tell me if they could come out this early and still survive?

First photo is the egg in question and second is another of the eggs with a more normal air cells. The last grey line was drawn on day 17.

The air cell will draw down even more. Mine started moving around day 21 and the air fell quickly started drawing down around the same time. They ended up hatching day 28. Doesn’t hurt to put on lockdown but they may just be getting ready

I had Cayuga eggs pip internally on day 22 and hatch on day 24. My incubator had some hot spots that sped up incubation and yours might too. What type of incubator are you using?
That's a possibility! Was your Cayuga duckling fine hatching so early? I have a pretty basic incubator but it hatched many chicks before and did good. Thank you for your reply :)

Thank you! I'll do that right now. Hopefully they'll do just like yours and hatch right on time :fl:)

I had a few that did this as well but they shadow danced for a few days before internal pips born about day 26-27
Like the other poster said my incubator has a Warner side and this caused a few to start early
If your eggs are this small it must be a young duck eggs ? I made this mistake my first incubation and ended up with 4 assists out of 6 eggs
I stopped turning mine when the air cell dropped and the shadowing started as I Figured if I turned them it could confuse them as they were in position
I have healthy happy ducks so yes they will be fine.

All of them hatched on day 24 and 25. Everyone was perfectly fine and healthy. It can take 72 hours from the internal pip to zip so don't be to worried if things are going slow.

Oh that's great! I hope that will be the case for these little guys too :fl
I'm also quite confuse about the two smaller eggs in the bunch even more since they are jumbo Pekin eggs. I bought them from a man an hour away so they could be from a young duck I don't know for sure. I assisted some chicks before so I will get ready to possibly help some of the ducks.
Thank you so much for the reply I will stop turning them and wait not so patiently.:wee

Thank you! It's always the hardest part, waiting patiently has they work their way out very slowly :jumpy
