Hi everyone!
I’m absolutely not a newbie to ducks, but have stumbled upon an issue I’ve yet to see in one of my of my 11 week old ducks. I added five cayuga ducklings to my flock at the end of July and all has gone well until two weeks back. One of my cayugas (female) will randomly have these episodes where she appears to instantly have wry neck and start flopping around on the ground, seemingly unable to walk. It’s almost seizure like activity. I’ll pick her up and hold her for a few minutes and when I sit her back down she’ll return to the flock like nothing happened, fully capable of walking once again. At first, I assumed this was a vitamin deficiency, so I’ve been providing Liquid B-12 and Nutridrench. This hasn’t seemed to help any, as it’s seeming to happen more frequently. At this point I’m assuming it’s neurological. (Side note: They have 24/7 access to clean water, deep enough to fully submerge their bills as well as 24/7 access to their food (Purina Flock Raiser Crumbles. Also relevant, she walks perfectly fine other than when these episodes occur. ) I’ve never seen this before. Has anyone ever experienced this?? TIA! (Picture of my flock for attention:))

One thing you didn't mention was niacin (B3). I know ducks need that and most supplement with brewers yeast, or some other form of it.

If they're getting that, then I'd try a Vit. E, whole, and a little scrambled eggs (for the selenium E needs to absorb) twice a day for a week and see if that changes anything. If so, I'd keep going with that for a few weeks more and might end her doing that.

the durvet liquid b complex has 100mg niacin per ml and it’s the best you can give her. also the selenium and e like deb said.
The niacin is way more important than B12, but anyway the liquid be complex has both and you can get it online or tractor supply or other Feed stores probably it’s a liquid so you can put the 1 ml a day into a little dish of mealworms or something, and make sure she gets it all, or you can give it orally with a syringe, but you have to make sure and get the syringe to go in on the right side of her throat past the breathing hole(which is in the center) or she can aspirate and that would be really bad
so follow this

by the way if you opt to give another form of niacin such as human niacin pills they can not be flush free or timed released or they will not work

also, eggs have selenium and the vitamin e needs the selenium in order to be absorbed like deb said but my ducks won’t eat scrambled eggs . there is a selenium horse paste in feed stores you can get or maybe even human selenium tablets however I think that you have to be very careful not to overdose selenium and ducks only need a tiny bit such as the amount that’s in a scrambled egg

i found this info about selenium
