My pekin duck has been egg bound before where her vent prolapsed and we had to put it back inn, she has been fine for months and laying eggs. It has now happened again however this time it is swollen, full of blod and poop that is running out where it can through holes in the sack. Her beak is very warm and Greg-ish. The sack is huge and is impossible to get back inn. She has stoped shaking and panting after I gave her pain medication and put her in a warm bath. What should I do?

Your best bet would be to take her to the vet if you can as I’m pretty sure you have done all you possibly can without medical help x

Hi, thanks for answering. At the moment it is hard to get any vet care for her as the regular vet is closed and the alternative is far away and very expensive.

If you have pictures, it might help. Calcium citrate with vitamin d or Tums given orally may help. Keep the tissue moist with vaseline, honey, or other mild oil, so it doesn’t dry out. I am not much help with ducks, so while waiting for others to respond, I would also post here on the duck forum as well for more to see:

Hi, I have given her some vitamins recommended by the vet last time, so hopefully that helps. I will try and attach pictures but it’s hard to see since she won’t let me touch her.

Perhaps you can get some help to lift her and get a picture. How much of her vent is out? Can you see intestines? Honey, even sugar paste with drops of water can reduce swelling of the prolapse, but if a lot is out, it may be hard to get back in. The tissue should not be allowed to dry out.

I sprayed it with barrier gel for wounds in hopes that it will keep it moist. I can’t see any intestines, but the prolapse is very big and swollen. I have tried putting it back in, but it is to large and she is in a lot of pain when I touch it. She is still swimming and drinking though. I don’t have anyone that can help me hold her atm, but here are a few more pictures.

I wish u very good luck and hope she gets helped! I have no idea what to do. Perhaps post on Facebook to a duck group and see if anyone can offer help.
