My full size rooster is too big to hold. I don’t want him anymore! He pulls out the other hens feathers, he attacks me and my family, and everyone is scared to go out there because of him.

How do I stop him from hurting them until I get rid of him?
How do I make him stop attacking me?
....and how will I get him in a box to get rid of him?...

I don’t have a dog crate big enough for him so can I just put him in a cardboard box with holes in it?
Please help me people!!!

Hi

I'm sorry you are having problems with your rooster. Is there anyone in your family that could butcher him for you.
If you go into the coop at night whilst he is roosting, you should be able to get hold of him without him attacking you, although he will no doubt struggle. Wear a thick coat and gloves and be firm. He will struggle less if you are firm and confident..... not always easy, I know!
Yes a cardboard box will contain him short term but I am only talking overnight or maybe a day and night at a push because you will struggle to provide him with food and water in a cardboard box and to clean him out of course. Another option would be to tether him in a secure area like the run with a little shelter to keep the rain off him. A tether can be made with a cable tie around his leg and clipped onto a dog lead with the other end attached to something solid like a supporting strut of your run or a corkscrew dog tether that screws into the ground. Please don't be tempted to tether him in an unsecured area where he might be victim to a predator. Better to lop off his head than leave him to that fate, even if he is aggressive. The cable tie needs to be monitored closely to ensure that it doesn't injure his leg.

Good luck whatever you decide but please do not breed from him, as you may end up with aggressive offspring.

Best wishes

Barbara

Terrorized by a bad roo, huh? Yes, he has to go, but do you have a plan as to where exactly? Do you wish to give him away to someone else? Or do you just wish him dead?

Catching him is the easy part. Just grab him off his roosting perch after it gets dark. But you need a plan beyond just stuffing him into a cardboard box with holes.

No, I haven’t found the person yet. But if he was dead I would be sad. If someone was to kill him I would not want to know if they would.

Would you or anyone you know be interested in having a rooster?

I’m not trying to make him live in a box, just put him in a box to travel somewhere and give him away. But thanks for help!

Yes, a cardboard box works well as a transport box. I'm not sure how many people would be interested in a human aggressive rooster, other than to eat him, or perhaps as bait for training cock fighters, which is a far worse fate in my opinion, but please do give full disclosure to anyone that takes him. It would be terrible if he took someone's child's eye out because they didn't realise he was dangerous.

Ok. I just really need to get him out of here! Every time I go out I wear flip flops and is in risk of him hurting me... I wear my boots as much as I can though.

A snow shovel or a rake make a fine defensive weapon for a mean Roo you don’t need to hurt him but you can keep him away from you with it when you are doing your work out there. Leave the flip flops in the house my good roosters would probably go after those

Where are you located? Please at least put your state in the information box. It would help to have that info if someone were interested in taking your rooster.
