I'm new to incubation. I gathered eggs for ever days. I put close to 100 in incubator. I've impatiently watched for days & days.
Time to hatch. They wiggle and roll. Congratulations the waiting has paid off. We have babies. Lots and lots of babies.
I have 5 eggs that haven't done anything. I candle and see 2 with activity. They are in the middle of hatching. 3 there is nothing. I window the air sacred and two are liquid. One is intact but black. It looks yucky. So these 3 are getting thrown out. The 2 liquid are blue/green. The third is a mid brown egg. (4-5 I'm guessing)
I go outside and throw it. And what I found was a huge shocker.
A CHICKEN AND A DUCK!!!!
Now this isn't a duck egg. It's a chicken egg. They were formed and still living. I am on day 24/25. Most everything hatched on day 21/22.
I know by cracking the egg I killed it's contents. I made sure to not put double yokes in my incubator. Only picked clean, good shapes, etc.
Can someone explain this to me? I've tried every possibe chicken/duck egg combination I can think of but this chicken egg had both. I didn't think this was even possible.
I do have 2 male ducks. A mallard and a Pekin. They (& females) all share the run. A few rabbits too.
I feel bad. RIP CHUCK (Chicken/Duck)
