Good morning,
I woke up this morning to one of my chickens (Edith) laying on the floor of the coop. There was some diarrhea on the poop boards and I fear it’s from her. Her wings are out and down (and her tail is down), and she keeps laying down. My other chicken, Tammy, is the one I’ve been treating for coccidosis (so they are all being treated cause it’s in the water). To make matters worse, I am supposed to be on an airplane in a few hours. What could be causing this and what should I do? Any thoughts would be appreciated

Sorry I cant help you with a cure.

Sometimes chickens who get sick pull through without any special care of medicines.
Sometimes people quarantine a sick chicken in the house to make her comfy , hope to avoid the risk of infecting others, and give chick feed, electrolytes and fresh fruits.
Sometimes chickens who go to a vet pull through with medicines and extra care.

Some chickens make it, others don’t. Be prepared, bc acting like this is not a good sign.

I don’t know what is the best option. But I know vets often don’t know either and give antibiotics. Chances to cure of whatever is wrong often seem to work for a few weeks or a few months. But she is vulnerable for other diseases because her natural health wont come back until after many months.

Do you have a good chicken-sit when you are travelling?

Is a family member going to be caring for them? I would get her drinking sugar water or homemade electrolyte water soon. Hold it up to the beak in a small cup or scoop. Mix a little chicken feed with a lot of water and offer it. Scrambled soft egg with a little water is usually something they like. Separate her in a dog crate with food and water close to her. How old is she? Does she lay eggs, and could she be egg bound? Feel her crop to see if it is empty before she eats or drinks, to see if it is empty or full. Check her vent area and under for swelling or any lice or mites.

She is 18 months old, I felt around her and she doesn’t feel egg bound (though she does lay eggs, been a day or two since she’s laid one). I took a picture of her bum, see attached. I don’t see any signs of mites, but then I might not know what mites look like. I gave her some fermented chicken feed with a big dollop of lactose free Greek yoghurt. She gobbled the yoghurt up but only ate a little of the feed. She’s laying down in a corner of the coop now. I have no one to care for her, though I might be able to get my pet sitter (for my indoor pets) to check in on her and giver her some more yoghurt.
