In the coop, Northern CA
We are getting 2 new baby chicks tomorrow (we already have 2, the 2new ones are replacements for 1 that passed away).
We are getting 1 salmon favorelle for sure, other than that what breed would you guys suggest?

we are looking for a good layer, friendly, and most importantly QUIET!!!!!

The list-
Cuckoo Marans
Rhode Island Reds
Black Copper Maran
Olive Eggers
Salmon Faverolle
Easter Eggers
Standard Blue Cochin

Maran’s aren’t too of our list as my mom thinks that they’re eggs taste funny.

Obviously all chickens are loud, but Easter/Olive eggers tend to be on the quieter side. Bonus: a EE and a Favorelle would look great together, with their adorable beards.
And EEs are definitely good layers, and usually friendly.

Thanks! We’ve had an EE in the past and she was adorable and super sweet and quiet, so I think we’ll probably go with an OE this time!

It seems that you have a very small flock and these birds are your personal pets as well as egg producers, am I correct? In that case, I would recommend the Blue Cochin. Nothing matches the Cochin in demeanor. They are hands down the most docile friendly birds. They are decent layers of brown eggs at about 3-4
eggs per week.

I would not choose Rhode Island Reds. They're reliable layers but my experience is that they are not quiet at all! Mine had a raucous croak. I also have found them to be the bossiest of the flock. We have an assortment of breeds but the RIR is not one I would choose again. I too favor the EE and Auraucana/Americana mutts. Great personalities and not too noisy.
