At my vets advice I am giving my flock Ivermectin orally, for mites. I have 1% injectable. He advises to give 1cc per 50# (doubled from the dosage of 1cc per 100#).
I admit, dosage calculations aren’t my strong point...so I would love some help to ensure I’ve got this correct!! I calculate the correct oral dose to be .25ml (1/4cc). This would be for a 12.5 lb bird. Mine are smaller (average size) but I have read that the max dosage is .05ml per pound from @casportpony on another thread. Mine average 5 lbs so I think .25ml is a safe bet here. Can anyone double check this for me? Headed out to do it now before our next big storm rolls in!! Thank you in advance!

You need less than that amount per bird-- 1cc/50lb is .2nD. if max dose is .05/LB then if then 5lb bird x.05=.25 BUT that's max dos. So it sounds close tho.
:) best wishes

Your vet suggested 0.44 mg/kg, which is in the normal range.

Minimum effective dose is said to be 0.2 mg/kg (this is also the most common one in vet formularies)

Max dose, which is the one I use, is 1 mg/kg.

If you want to follow his directions, give 0.02 ml per pound of bodyweight. If you want to use the max dose, use 0.045 ml per pound of body weight (okay to round up to 0.05 ml per pound).

With your vets suggestion a five pounder would get 0.1 ml
My mega-max dose a five pounder would get 0.227 ml (round up to 0.23 or 0.25)

Does that help at all?

YES!!!!!! That helps a ton. I am glad for your advice and to know you use the max dose. He said there’s a good margin of safety with this drug so I will titrate mine up or down depending on which bird I’m doing (some weigh more). Thank you so much. I feel relieved and ready to do this now 🤣🙏🏼
