Hi everyone!
I have a little blue cochin who has had pasty butt since I’ve gotten her and now a swollen vent and her bum has lost it feathers. I’m super sad because I’ve already lost one and I only have two left.

I’ve done:
Warm water soaks
Vegetable oil on her bum
Dipping her beak in water

My one other chick has been bothering her bum but I can’t separate them.

1. Any suggestions on how to fix pasty bum
2. Is this normal looking poop?

Please help me save her, I’ve had nightmares of losing her :(

Welcome to BYC! Do you have a food scale that you can use to weigh her? I like to track the weight on mine, especially when they have a health issue.

Are those bubbles I see in the poop?

Yes I think they are! It sounded bubbly when it came out. That’s a great call I will start weighing her today! I will say she’s not super active like the other one (but the other one is super feisty)

I had a pasty butt chick. These are my first chicks. I first used warm water on paper towel to try to hold on there to moisten and wipe gently. I was surprised how dried and difficult it was to get off. I heard a podcast by Myer’s Hatchery (The Coop) that said hold the chick bum under warm running water, so I did that the second day, because it was still a little pasty. With that and gentle wiping I got it. Dried it with a wash cloth and gentle heat with a hairdryer (just waved it back and forth, did not hold directly on chick). I checked it the next day, and it was clean.
