I have a 2 year old hen acting very lethargic. Her head keeps twitching forward not to a certain side from what i’ve noticed almost like something’s stuck or she’s trying to push. She’s standing straight up like a duck. Not eating with her sisters now but was this morning. She is a rescue and is not comfortable being picked up. Is she egg bound ?? Mareks ??

I found a hen passed away in our coop 2 days ago she looked like she just fell over and died. no signs of how or why and they all have been healthy otherwise to this point i have never lost a bird to egg bounding or illness. Have not found any sign of mites. I hear sneezes here and there but have been told that is totally normal as our whole yard is dirt.

What can I do for her?? Currently gonna try to catch her and place her in a bath but due to her weariness of being held will that make it worse by stressing her out??

Can you feel an egg in her cloaca? She could be egg-bound. If so quarantine her and make sure she has the option to eat and drink. If you any calcium rich nutrients offer her those. A non-invasive treatment would be to give her an Epsom salt bath and gently try to massage her vent area and help her pass the egg on her own.

Can you get photos of her and her poop?

Is she pooping?

It's not a great idea to feel inside the vent unless you understand a hen's anatomy, we've found most don't and can do more damage than good.

Get Extra Calcium Into Her ASAP if she's not laid an egg. Calcium Citrate with D3. 1 Tablet into the beak now, then once daily for a week. If you don't have Calcium Citrate give 1 TUMS (now and daily).

What does her crop feel like? Head is twitching, is it crop adjustment? Look inside the beak for obstruction or canker and inside the ears for infection, debris or mites.

Keep her hydrated.
