I have a 1 year old BB Red rooster. He’s just hunched up and not really moving around. I noticed this last week so I isolated him and noticed his crop was full and hard like a golf ball. The next day it was smaller and squishy. That afternoon it was empty. He was drinking the probiotic/electrolyte water I was giving him and was back to normal after 2-3 days. As soon as I fed him again (laying crumbles only) he went right back to being hunched up and not moving. I have him isolated again. Any ideas what’s wrong?

Im sorry your rooster is unwell, hopefully he gets better soon!

Laying crumbles is not suitable for a rooster, as it has too much calcium in it, which could cause issues with him. Is it possible to switch to an all-flock feed?

It sounds like his crop is eventually emptying. What do feed him? Do you have granite poultry grit available for him? How old is he? What do his poops look like? How cold is it in your coop.

I feed him scratch /crumbles and he does have grit. Poop looks normal and it’s about 50°.

I have him and 3 hens but he will eat what the hens eat. I also have scratch feed.
