I was going to suggest something similar. Works great with chickens.

Thanks again ivan 3 for the links. Dr Leach called me back!!! She's willing to help me if I can find a vet around her to at least look at my poor turkey then call her with a medical observation. I hope this works out.

Seminolewind and Cuban longtails: I thought the same as you, but I've tried everything including wrapping them. She just pecks at the exposed portion of her toes until they're bleeding. Even though the vet wrap stayed on and effectively kept her from pecking off the antibiotic ointment, it didn't seem to help that much. I even put cotton balls between her toes because the first few times I wrapped them the vet wrap seemed to shrink up and cut into the webbing between her toes even though I did not wrap them tightly. She has been such a trooper while I medicate, attach ointment slathered cotton balls, wrap with guaze then wrap with vet wrap. She just stands there and lets me do it. I think I'm done with the wrapping though. So....until I can get some stronger antibiotics I'm going to soak my poor little turkey's feet in some warm water and epsom salt as suggested by Dr Leach and hope for the best. I will post any changes in Red's condition for future reference on this tread.

Sad huh? Poor baby!!

It looks to me like she got her foot stuck somewhere. Injury that pulled off some flesh and scales. I would keep it as clean as possible and either keep using blue kote or an antibiotic ointment on it to encourage healing.

Regardless of the cause, the constant picking won't allow it to heal. If nothing else works mix antibiotic ointment with pine tar (use a plastic medicine cup and a couple of round plastic coffee stirrers/straws - easy application). Heat the pine tar/antibiotic ointment in microwave for 5 seconds, this will make it easy to work with. Twirl the two stirrers in the goop to get it out of medicine cup and then twirl the stuff onto the tops of feet. Very, Very, bad taste and the pine tar is a potent antibiotic.

Last resort, but it kept our jakes from trying to rip off one another's snoods when they were young and `shooting (dripping) the red'.

Thanks again ivan3 for the advice and the links. I've tried pine tar, but not mixed with antibiotic ointment.
I found a local vet willing to look at her then consult with Dr Leach. The vet I called is the wife of a buddy of my husband's who lives just down the road from us. Turns out she went to school with Dr Leach and was more than willing to hear her advice. I'm still waiting for the official diagnosis which will hopefully come today. My little red turkey was quite the celebrity at the vet's office. She behaved better than most of the animals that come through there I'd bet. I was a proud mama!!!

I’m also now experiencing this exact same thing with my 7yr old male Turkey. It’s been going on for months. I’ve seen a vet who treated for gout but it hasn’t helped. The only thing that stops him is bandaging them but he’s getting so sick of me doing that! As soon as bandages go on, he completely ignores his feet, but if he can see them he frantically pecks them to the point of bleeding. Any info would be very much appreciated
