I started hatching button quail. I had one egg that started to break open and never did. It has been a day and no progress. I helped it out a little and it managed to get out. But the cord is still attached to a bit of its shell and its falling every time it walks. What do I do? I have to put it in the brooder soon

Clear pictures?

You can cut the string very close to the shell.
Not close to the bird.
Whatever you do do not pull on the string.

@Nabiki is the only quail person I know of. I know that Gatorade or sugar water sometimes helps weak baby chickens though. I wouldn’t peel off the umbilical cord though. Pictures would help.

Ok thank you. I will give it a try. I’m new to this. There is a bunch of black gu on the cord. Any idea what that is?
