Helpful hints for building coops

only 32F today, but it feels warm because the sun is shining. Some of the snow slid off of the North side of the house..
The red squirrels came out of hibernation and are running all over the place..

Those squirrels are likely chasing each other!
No building today due to rain, but I am shopping for hardware cloth and garden fencing. And paint...and maybe some chicks! I have four eggs pipped so far today.

So far only 2 chicks hatched. I did get fencing and hardware cloth. No cheap paint for sale at Lowes.

Today was 67° and sunny! It was lovely and I went out to paint and staple wire on. Dug dirt to put over the apron. And the young birds had a chance to get outside.

Up to 16 chicks hatched now! I doubt the other eggs will hatch but I am giving them a chance.
The run is shaping up. The youngsters will get a chance to run around again today. Even though there is no roof yet. Hoping they will be ok.

Friday I need to get everything ready for the swap. Lots of critters to sell.

Mine have worked great for 6 years now.

Today I made a bin to hold chicks at a swap. And the frame for the small door to change water easier for the CA quail , so they don't escape while I am doing that.

made it into the mid 40F's today.
I spent a little time outside without a coat on.
I chopped at the ice mountain in front of the service door into the garage. didn't get it all removed, but by the end of next week it should all be melted.
