Update today: she was getting much better yesterday, and I was super hopeful! I could barely hear her breathing, and I was thinking that would be that. Unfortunately the odd breathing has started up again today, and it seems that she’s lost her voice. Shes gradually getting it back. She’s sneezing so much that she gasps for breath, takes a ten minute break, then goes back to constant sneezing. Can’t see anything wrong with her throat or nostrils. There’s really nothing I can do at this point.
What’s odd is that she’s had contact with my other chickens by accident since a few days ago, when they escaped their enclosure to go over to her quarantine coop. None of the others are showing the slightest symptoms. This will never stop being odd to me. I’m hoping that this new advent of sneezing will be the last hurdle to overcome, just like with human respiratory illnesses—the way they usually make their way up from a sore throat and then to the nose with sneezing symptoms. I don’t know how it is with chickens, I’ve never had to deal with avian respiratory infections before. I’ll try to get her to ingest some VetRx later but she absolutely hates the taste now. She’s alert and her comb is bright red and perky, so I’ll take that as a good sign.
