Hello everyone, I came to consult with you about my hen. The girl was only a year and a few months old, she was completely fine last night, this morning she was apathetic (09 am) and at 01 pm she was already dead. During the morning she was still trying to lay an egg. So I did an "autopsy" and found a screw about 1 inch big in her crop, it was big, but with yesterday's food (they had meat after a week), however she clearly did not digest it overnight. During the autopsy I actually got an egg out of her and in her stomach + small intestine I found two more pieces of a nail. My question is - is it likely that she died from that? The worst thing is that the hen was eating, drinking, laying, behaving absolutely perfectly until yesterday. I'm afraid it was some kind of infection. However, the hen looked absolutely "eaten" during the autopsy. Please advise, I'm worried about the other hens. Thank you very much!

Wow! Where are they picking up the nails and screws!
That needs to be cleaned up asap! If they have access to this hardware type of things, what else can they find there? oil, antifreeze....
Are they desperate for grit?
My hens have grit and sand, but two weeks ago my husband build new house for new chicken (we have 7 chicks and 30 in incubator) - he said that clean all - but i see, something not - we clean again with magnets and found other 2 - so im angry on him. But it possible that hen can die in one day on this? Yesterday normal lay egg, she normal eat. In autopsy i found egg in ass - in last minutes she was in nest - maybe she died in nest and fall from nest down - but egg was normal like every other her egg. :( I not found nothing - only 3 screws from palletes - one in crop - 1,5 centimeter, one in stomach and one almost in the end of intestine... everything about 1,5 centimeter.. Im sad. She was " top of " my hens.
