So ive always thought that this chicken was a rooster 👇 BUT!
IMG_9222.png

Recently i saw "his" neck feathers are round, and "he" has no saddle feathers.

I figured since "his" sister is laying eggs, "he" should have "his" special feathers by now.

And every morning i see "him" wandering around inside the catio but never thought anything of it.
With this new found curiosity i decided to check the catio, and inside a bush i found TWENTY PINKISH WHITE EGGS!!!

IS "HE" LAYING??? :idunno

Im not 100% sure, but my actual rooster, buddy, was towering over "him" and "he" SQUATTED. is "he" a hen??:fl

Here are some photos to better show my examples;

I know that Ameraucana most often have a pea comb. (but not always)
Easter eggers are not a true breed,, but certainly a Lovely one. :love
Ameraucana is an actual breed. It does have a pea comb, has repeatable colors and characteristics when bred, and lays blue and sometimes greenish eggs. There is a Breed Club Website for Ameraucana that has a great explanation of these terms.

Americana is a term the hatcheries have come up with to mean a mixed breed, or easter eggers. Often people call these chickens easter eggers, and they can lay any color of egg. They do not have repeatable characteristics when bred and are not a breed. Americanas and Easter Eggers can have any coloration and comb type, and are known for laying blue and green eggs, as well as standard colors such as white, brown, tan, etc.

I was thinking it was saddle feathers, but when i looked at them from a diffrent angle its just short normal round feathers that are sitting weird because of his or her wing

The image that says "One small saddle feather" is showing those feathers from another angle

Interesting !!!! His or her sister has a peacomb or rose comb, its very tiny along with tiny waddles. which is why compared to the "hens" comb i thought he or she was a rooster

we will just have to wait and see :fl

i hope so. ive only been faked out by 2 hens this good in my whole chicken raising experience!

If the chicken is a hen, that means binky hatched out all girls, ive never seen that happen but im glad it did because we cant have anymore roosters!
Your hen has a single comb, which might be throwing you some if you were expecting rose or pea comb. But I have no doubt she's a hen, based on her age and feathering - if she were a roo her comb would probably be much bigger. Single comb is recessive. So she got two recessive genes, one from each parent. Birds with pea or rose comb can have recessive single comb genes, depending on their ancestry.
