One of my maran hens keeps laying these huge eggs. I didn't think to much of it till now because she keeps doing it. We are talking two to three days in a row. Picture coming soon. I just am worried its got to hurt. Suckers are huge. Bigger then my ducked eggs.

I have three hens that lay eggs so big you can't close the carton unless you tear it. One of them lays a double yoker every single day. The other two are just hugh egg layers. They are youngish so I know it's not the age thing. I dont think there is any real reason for it. Just some hens lay hugh eggs. I think In Rosies case she likes to wait until she has gotten every single possible tidbit she could find before she goes to the nest box. All three of them do complain very vocally, but Poke it Dot lays a teeny egg and she complains too. Hope some one can tell us why they do this. Good luck.

How heavy was that egg? I have a hen that lays quite big eggs (~ 70gr). She also has the record on my flock with 110gr!!!

If you have such a huge egg and it has double yolk will get twins? Or this is irrelevant?

I have one hen that always lays eggs like that, they are always double yolkers. I've found a couple with three yolks, and one massive egg that had four (that's right FOUR) yolks in it. I wish I would've taken a picture........it was the only one she ever laid like that- her first egg.
