Just figured out today that my darker colored salmon faverolle (not the SF pictured) is a boy... and that got me to thinking, is my dark brahma a roo, too? It is a little over 4 months old by now. Spending some time looking at photos online, I am thinking 'she's' a 'he'... which makes me sad, since I only have 8 total chickens, and that means one of the boys will definitely have to go.

Poop. I am at a bit of a loss... our silly feed and seed promised us 95% accuracy in sexing! Grrr.

Anyone have any thoughts on brahma roos vs faverolle roos? My brahma has been super friendly with us... which is a big must, since we have a toddler. Do their personalities change much over time? Like I said before, we are at 4 months-ish... and neither has been particularly aggressive with the other chickens (in fact, both have been picked on by my 1.5 year-old RIRs). If we choose to keep one of them, I am leaning toward the brahma, but I would love to hear any thoughts y'all have...

Both are very nice calm breeds. I'd pick by the particular rooster. Wait till they are a year or so old before making your decision.

My neighbors rooster started attacking at 6-7 months and they got rid of him at 11-12 months old. If you picked up one of his hens, he'd full blown attack you. We personally don't have roosters yet. Not until we build our fence around our property.

if he was a pullet, he would have looked like this

your light brahma in the last pic is also a cockeral

I thought that too.

There must of been a mix up at the hatchery. It's very odd to pick so many roosters from the pullet bin. It looks like you may have picked straight run or the hatchery sexers are inexperienced. Your SF is a pullet.

I'd keep the light brahma boy. My light brahma is the most friendly chick ever. She was hatched early March. For a while I thought she was a cockerel due to the comb reddening early, but she's sitting in the nest box. I think she laid an egg very early. Either her or my SF pullet laid an egg starting this week.

Here's my pullet. Her neck/hackle feathers are a bit different then your LB. they are about the same age.

You've gotta be kidding. The light brahma is a cockerel?? Here is another picture, to be sure. I thought for sure it was a pullet, judging by the lack of tail feathers so far...
