My silkie hen just died today after what I assume was mating w/ my silkie rooster. When I woke up in the morning to open the chicken coop, she was just laying down in one spot not moving. In about an hour two I come back from school, and she sadly passed away. I'm devastated and confused to why she died. They are both the same breed. Was it because the rooster was too heavy? I never seen him mate at all and my hen would constantly squat in front of him.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't believe that it was the weight of your rooster that killed her. My large naked neck turken mates with my bantam all the time and she's fine. Was she bleeding at all?

No not at all I checked back there and it looked fine. I honestly don't know what happened. She has no feathers missing or anything.

I'm so sorry about your hen :hugs
Something like this happened to me and I assume it was a reproductive issue. They can strike fast and you're not always able to save them
Maybe it was thank you for sharing that. I was worried about my other silkie hen but maybe the rooster isn't the problem. It's unfortunate but at least she's in a better place. RIP Minnie

I didn't think so either because my other little bantam is mating with my neighbors rooster that is like 2x her size. Here's a picture of my rooster (Blue) and then my hen that just died (Black). She was a bit tinier compared to my other silkie hen but not too much of a difference.
