Dh has graciously indulged my desire for chickens and has begun the coop building process. DH being a perfectionist and an engineer, everything has to be square and lined up! I kept reminding him that it was a coop for chickens, not the Taj Mahal, and he kept saying that a building is a building, no matter the cause!

Here are some pics of our progress thus far:

The floor is a salvage fiberglass sheathing over plywood.

The roost cage so that they can't peck in their droppings. There is a clean out door on that side wall.

We still have more painting, trim work, the push/pull mechanism for the pop doors (one on either end), windows, roof, vents and the portable run! I get tired just thinking about it! But, I can't wait to be done and collect my 6 ISA Brown pullets from a local Amish farm that has 400 pullets! Will post more as we progress! TFL!g.

You mean they will poop all over my DH's wonderful handy work?? The nerve of some chickens! I'll do about an inch of shavings to the roost cage and 4" in the rest of the coop with Stall Dry and DE mixed in. After hours of reading on BYC and learning all I can, I'm trying to give my pullets the best home I can! If you could see their living conditions now, you would be appalled.
