Hello all, I have recently moved to a family farm of 125 years. It has been furloughed for a few years since the last real "farmer" in the family died a few decades ago. I have taken it upon myself to restore an old hip-roofed barn of 1500 ft2, but larger animals are not for me so I will be raising chickens in it all. 1/3 has been cleaned out (30 year old manure, fellow didn't clean up after his last herd of sheep..., cows, and horses...and its ok!) and predator fencing base has been laid into the barn floor with pavers as the base to support the fence/sills, posts, etc. and structures in the coop. The pavers were filled around with 25% quickcrete mixed with dirt with the same mixture in some of the low and wetter spots (a lot of underground water in this area) The barn was fed from a roof draining cistern with a pump in the barn. Don't know if it works still, will find our though. I am thinking breeding pens and rooster cages. There is room for free range layers by the barn, and in the back acres there is room for several chicken tractors, corn growing, and a lot of 30 years unkempt growth. There is water, 4 acre deep lake and several streams that do go dry. I am wondering what all of y'all think of any red flags in this scenario. Except for contentedness.
