Hey all, new to the site. Happy to finally join the community. We lost our first silkie chicken due to a fox and have since been researching how to best care for these chickens in our backyard. We now have 2 chickens, we thought they were both hens as the place we bought them does not sell roosters, although one has since turned out to be a cockerel!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New to chickens, we got our first silkie chicken in early 2023
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
2 (1 male, 1 female)
(3) What breeds do you have?
Silkies!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The chickens are like an extension of my family. I try to free range them as much as I can and really enjoy them scavenging around the garden.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Running, video games, art, video creation, Karaoke, foreign languages. Might give breeding chickens a go
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Married with 2 young kids. The kids really enjoy having the chickens in the backyard.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I kept googling questions about chickens and kept ending up at this site. I figured I might as well sign up and join the community.
