In the Brooder
Heyo! Teenager poultry raiser here! Decided to finally make an account after lurking on this site for as long as I could remember to make a post in the emergency thread.
Right now we have around 30, I think? 4 turkeys, around 12 fully grown chickens, 16 chicks, and a few developing eggs. Would take me waaaay too long to name all of them, as most of them have their own names.
We mostly raise mutts! We do have an Ameraucana and 2 Orpingtons, but thats as far as it goes for purebreeds. Most of our mutts are part silver Wyandotte, Orpington, Plymouth Rock, and others! So we have a whoole bunch of big pants'd chickens running around with big Orpington butts. Our turkeys are all Midget White, we got a shipment of 20 around 4 years ago that only 3 survived to adulthood from and made a little flock out of them. I think the worst thing we have ever had was a small group of 3 guinea fowl. Worst creatures I have ever dealt with.
My favorite aspect is being able to raise little hellions to make friends with! The eggs are also nice, but having chickens that run up to you and jump on your shoulders whenever you sit down is amazing. I love all of my little babies, no matter how old they are.
I am mostly an artist! I do pottery throwing, photography, and digital art. Planning on doing it for a job later in life. I also do gardening! Grew up with a yard full of raspberries, mulberries, apples, and cherries. I also have a box garden I love to root around in, currently trying my hardest to get a whole bunch of companion crops to grow. Another thing I love is Herping! I actually found this tiny little garter earlier today that I picked up and held for a bit.
I have 3 older siblings and 2 parents. We have a looong history of all sorts of pets; the most exotic we have had is my father's chestnut fronted macaw Gomez. Gomez hates me but she is absolutely adorable and has so many cute little tricks. We have also had 5 indoor cats in the past, right now we have a 3 year old stray who I love with all my heart and an 18+ year old senior who we have had longer than me. We also have a tiny little senior Chihuahua running on spite and hate alone, as well as a Schnoodle.
I have known BYC for as long as I can remember! Grew up with all sorts of poultry courtesy of my mother who started a little flock when I was tiny. She was the one who introduced me to BYC, we have used it for forever to look for advice on all sorts of problems.
