Have been wanting to get layers for a few years now. Finally jumped in this past spring and purchased 5 chicks. Fingers crossed by June they'll reward me with eggs.
SE Texas.
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Sapphire Gem
Speckled Sussex
These 2 are questionable as to if that's what I got; Barred Rock
Buff Orpingtons. (Will post another thread and ask opinions of what the heck they may be.)
I look forward to further Q&A discussions!

My sapphire gems started laying around 4 months old and haven’t stopped laying. We got them December 2023 and they started laying in April and lay an egg a day each .

We had a blue grey and a solid black . The grey girl Ida was taken by a red tail hawk but we still have the black one Chicken Ditty and she lays daily and lets the whole coop know with her egg song ..

Oh no! Poor Ida! Haven't decided to free roam yet. We have hawks, eagles and huge owls that share their sky and woods with us. Just not prepared to share our chickens with them! Lol
I need to get pics together, but think mine would be considered the blue grey (?) A beautiful silver. Will post soon.
I look forward to those songs from my own backyard instead of from my neighbors hens.
