Welcome to our lovely community! We're happy to have you here and thanks for joining us! Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for all that you have done. :hugs:hugs
I wish I could quote you all.

Thank you all for the warm welcome—it’s great to be here! This site already feels like a treasure trove of knowledge, and I’m looking forward to learning from everyone. To those with law enforcement roots, I have to say—four generations is impressive! Chicago has its challenges, but it’s a city with a lot of heart. I’m grateful for the years I had serving, and now I’m ready to focus on my new 'investigations'—namely, figuring out the quirks of my chickens and ducks. Thanks again for the kind words!

Welcome to BYC @Jeff_Stone! Thank you for your time in service and congrats on the retirement.

@Debbie292d will likely be along soon as well to say hi, she also recently retired from law enforcement.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your flock!
Thank you for the warm welcome! Retirement has its perks, sometimes. Ha. But I’m looking forward to settling into this next chapter. It’s always great to connect with others who’ve walked a similar path—I'll keep an eye out for Debbie!

As for my mix of chickens and ducks keeping me on my toes, I’m looking forward to coming around to sharing a few stories of my own, for sure!

Hiya, Jeff, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Congrats on your retirement! 🥳 🥰

Yes, I'm retired from GBPD (Green Bay PD) by about 8 years now, but didn't really retire totally as I picked up a gig typing federal immigration/deportation/asylum hearings from home about the same time. I can't say it's the same thing by far, but it is interesting to say the least, and I've learned a lot.

We raise/breed solely silkies here in the boonies of Wisconsin now. My signature says it...living the dream.

Do you have any pictures of your ladies? What kind do you have? We all love to see poultry photos.

To swap stories about feed, I'll just share ours, which many do similar, yet, many others feed different brands, and they're all great!

These silkies, chicks and adults, have been on Kalmbach's Flock Maker for about three years, I believe. Prior to that, Dumor crumbles, but TSC was always out of it so we switched.

For "scratch," they get Kalmbach's Henhouse Reserve, which is actually a good feed, but they picked through it too much, so now that's their scratch. There is a feeder with oyster shell in the pens/coops where laying hens are as whilst the Flock Maker is higher in protein, which is good for all ages, it's low in calcium, which is great for everyone but the laying hens.

If you have questions, there are so many helpful folks, so you can ask here or find the forum that best fits under the Forum tab above, and post your question(s) there.

Make yourself at home! We're glad you're here!
