Okay in their fuzzy teenage butt glory:Hi I’m Sarah!
We are brand new to the backyard poultry lifestyle. We recently moved to an area where we can now have them!
In our search for chickens to start our flock- we went to TSC… to our dismay they had none left for the day, however they had ducklings! We have always talked about having a mixed flock (before we knew that was the term) of chickens and ducks- so I said why not let’s start with ducks. I’m rather glad I did, because had I started with chicks only to have the messiest little babies come after, I might have cried.Thankfully I’ve joined just about any group/forum etc you can and it’s 2025 so there’s a lot.
We got 4 ducklings on March 12 (our anniversary), all of which are still growing. So far I believe we have 2 pekins and 2 silver apple yards.
I’ll add photos when I figure out how and share.
We already had 2 cats and 1 dog, and two little girls- and our girls love the ducklings. The 6 year old can’t wait for them to have their coop so she can actually help clean and hold as much as she wants. I think the 3 year old wants them to follow her around.
Our cats have yet to meet them, and I’m unsure how often they really will since they are indoor cats. And our dog met them and promptly bit the starting tail feathers of mine.
I joined BYC because there was threads for ducks and chickens and since I’m soon to be in also the chicken owning category I wanted to have a place to come for discussions and answers.
Thank you for this awesome site.![]()

•Ivy [image 350] (lighter head, looks like she wants to fight the phone… because I think she does)
•Little Quackers [image 349] the biggest one and the yellow/white facing the left.
