Hoping someone here has some experience with this. We just moved on to a new property that has multiple mature hickory trees. I spent some time in early September gathering nuts and did the "float" test. 90% sank 10% floaters. Not too bad, yeilded 7lbs over all. The nuts are still dropping so I decided to go out and have another forage. This time I have the opposite result. 90% floaters, 10% sink in a 6lb haul. I hate to toss all these nuts. Are there any reasons why so many would be floaters and does that necessarily mean they are all bad? It's been very dry, no rain for the last 3 weeks, any possible correlation?
