Me too. my stupid dog decided to chase it up a tree (he wouldn't come and I wasn't about to go get him) so I'm guessing this is it's first spring by itself. It's good for it to learn to avoid the trails and the edge of town.Meeting a bear on a hike is one of my worst fears, particularly with my two talkative dogs.

This trail runs down into a ravine and back up in a hairpin curve.
I didn't see it because I was looking down the ravine where there were vultures and a live elk cow grazing like nothing was wrong, so I assumed the vultures were there for elk afterbirth.
it never occurred to me there was another reason for the vultures to be there. I was looking for a elk calf and not uphill where it was. The live cow was only about 30 yards from the bear.
As I was coming up the hill, I heard a ripping noise and looked up hill.
