Horse grooming thread

Back in the day when I was leasing my first horse in exchange for stable work (in the 1970's) my Christmas present from my Mom was a small but high-quality grooming kit. Water brush with nylon bristles, dandy brush with soft horsehair bristles, stainless-steel folding hoof pick, and a body brush with short hog hair bristles, all the brushes with wooden handles.
Today, I only have the water brush and the case they all came in :(
The one I miss most is the body brush, it got ripped off when a person left the barn I was boarding at, unfortunately they had access to our private tack room and left suddenly, with other boarders besides me angry about what this person stole from us.
The other kinds of brushes I've been able to replace, but not this body brush. There's no local store or online tack sellers that offer the right brush with a wooden base, short natural bristles, and an over-the-hand grip.

Sorry that happened! It sounds like a nice brush.

Have you looked at Professional's Choice? They have a body brush item number W310 that sounds pretty much exactly like that.

I remembered recently that I used to be terrified of picking hooves. I think I could be coerced into picking front hooves, but I knew the back ones were kickers and refused to get close. Fast forward to me now, laughing when a horse tries to kick me for picking up its hooves. Little Storm would be terrified and amazed.

I have to buy a new comb for manes/tails. I've lost the one I was using. I could really use a grooming tool overhaul actually as most of my grooming tools are 20+ years old.

But, yeah, went to groom my boy before his bath and didn't have my favorite comb, so used a reserve comb. It worked but not as nicely.

That’s too bad. Hopefully you can get a new one!

accidentally grabbed a prickly hard brush and made the horse cranky while grooming. I feel really bad, he's an incredibly sweet boy!
It’s always fun finding horse’s itchy spots and the brushes they like and dislike! When I find a brush I like to run it over my arm or hand and then take their hair into consideration.

I got some horsehaus brushes! Two more are on the way!
