Hi! What has everyone been up to today? This morning it was 30F here which was fun as someone who isn’t the biggest fan of cold weather😅 I still was out in the barn working with the horses. I trimmed apple’s hooves and started getting the yearlings used to a blanket for when it gets subzero here. I have been really working on trust building exercises with them and I was pleasantly surprised. They both barely moved an inch the very first time I put the blanket on their backs. You would never know that they were the same rearing unhandled horses I loaded off of the trailer back end of April. I pulled up a side by side of Drago from his first week and a recent picture. He looks so much older in just 6 months. They grow so fast🥲

Awwwwwww

On another note a guy in town was selling of his breeding herd of quarter horses due to health reasons. He was selling a buckskin filly for $5,000 originally, but said he would sell her to me for $1,000 because at this point he just can’t take care of them. My husband said to me “you know you want the buckskin” like a devil on my shoulder lol I do not need any more horses especially another young one to train, but boy is it ever tempting😂

He's a keeper! 😂 I'm afraid if I married someone who encouraged me to get more animals, I'd end up in a zoo. I would keep in mind the possible places she could end up, being untrained and young. I know where I'm at, anything but a horse like her, no matter what the breeding, isn't very likely to find a good home. Especially at that price.

That's a reason I don't plan on ever selling Max, even though he wasn't exactly what I wanted originally. A horse with dietary restrictions and restricted riding ability wouldn't end up in a good place. He's not even good as a pasture pet because of the pasture part! He already ended up with a kill buyer once (long story) and was bought back, so I'm not going to let it happen again. He's got a wonderful personality and I think we have a good partnership going that will get better with time. 😊 How old is she? Does she have any training at all? One good thing would be starting her young and getting a good brain on her before your boys are ready for her. Just saying, you could inquire a bit about her and think about it.

She is 6 months and no handling. So completely blank slate. She is fully registered so she has that going for her and could potentially be a good reining or roping horse for my kids (rodeo is huge here). I just keep mulling it over in my head if I want another baby to train.

Do it!!!!
