How can you clean dried chicken poop off of wood surfaces?

Our coop is painted on the inside (though only one coat) as is the ladder down into the run. The ladder and area right inside the pop door has areas of poop on it that I can't get off. The chickens don't mind it, but it grosses me out. I scrape it almost daily when I do the poop boards under the roosts, but there are still areas that are sort of dried on and stained. Is this just the way that chicken coops are? Is there a better way to clean it? I'm using a wire brush to try and scrub it off, but it never really gets clean.

I can't decide if I'm being obsessive compulsive or if our coop is disgustingly dirty!

Someone just posted a question as to whether or not they should paint the inside of the coop. Perfect timing.

As someone else answered, I would also try to use soap and water and let it dry. Then paint the areas that seem the most poopy, if not the whole inside of the coop. I used semi-gloss paint and I love it. I also did 3 coats on the chicken area and downwards (meaning from roost height and down) everything higher than that was one or 2 coats.

Yeah, I suspect the problem is that it only has one coat of paint on it. DH painted it and I didn't really have the heart to tell him that I wanted it really PAINTED like you would do the inside of a house. You can see the wood through the paint. We need to add more paint. Overall, the coop is lovely. We're using deep litter and there is no smell, but it's just those few areas where they like to hang out and poop!

Place a wet rag over the problem area for an hour or three. Then the stuff will scrape off pretty easily.

Dried Budgie poop, dried linnie poop, you name it, this stuff takes it off. Chicken poo is easy to clean up compared with those kind of droppings, in my experience.

I plan to use a sander becuase we didn't get the painting done before winter....
I will be sanding all the poop off the walls, and putting a high gloss (if you can find it, i have a heck of a time) or semi gloss becuase you can use a rag on those surfaces. (unlike a flat finish paint.)
and we're switching over to a poop board So I think that's going to help with clean up too. less for them to walk on etc.
