How do geese see?

Hi. I have a question that is more about science than geese themselves. I looked all over the net but couldn't find anything so I thought you guys might know. How do geese see the world? Do they see in colors just like humans? I heard that birds can see the UV waves. It really maded me curious because my geese seem to have excellent sight. Whenever I look at them from a window they will instantly see me. It's almost creepy.

As of what I have noticed in our geese is yes they have excellent eye sight but I do not know if they see in color or not? They also have good hearing as well.
There will others that jump in on this who might know.

Yes, geese see colors, and see UV, so while we have 3 primary colors, they have 4, so they see a different world than we do. Their visual acuity is also mus. They also have little binocular vision, so they have more difficulty with depth perception.

I googled that ? the other day. they do see in color. their eye sight isn't as good at night as in the day, but can still see. Did you notice how their eyelids close from the bottom up? not like human's top down? so cute!

Ducks are the same way close from bottom to top.

Ha my geese are the same, if they see me in the window or at the slider and I've not gone out to feed them they peck at the glass. They know I live in the house and if I delay feeding they peck around the perimeter.


I love my geese but I have to admit my first reaction to your "How to geese see" was "with a slanty, angry eye"

Interesting..I was just outside and heard a flock overhead and realized I never thought about it. I figured most all birds go to roost at night but I never thought about the geese I hear every year, sometimes all night long, flock after flock.

Now that I'm thinking about, there's more birds that I didn't think about besides the owls, like the whipoorwill...are there more than these?

My geese have strange reactions regarding straight lines.

The seem to freak out with long sticks or for example river canes if they move with the wind.

Also they get scared very easily if I move a stick, and if There is one on the door of their pen some of them dont dare to go out, I have to push them.

And the best: Try to make them cross an orange cable on the floor... impossible! They get very scared of orange electricity cables on the floor, if they cross them is jumping like half a meter and very scared. I also need to push them from the back to make them do it.

Is is just mine? Sometimes I fantasize they see electromagnetic waves...

Not just yours. All my geese have been overly cautious about sticks, hoses, cables, earthworms, and even drawn lines. Some more than others, to the point of them hissing at small twigs. My guess is that it's an instinct to protect them from lurking snakes. Even though most snakes will have trouble consuming a grown goose, a venomous snake can still kill them.
