How do I stop chickens from squawking??

Some days my hens are just a lot more talkative than others. Spring is coming and animal hormones are going crazy. I don't really think it is something you can control.

I can pretty much guarantee it is not a one time thing. If silence is a requirement, maybe trade in your chickens for a tortoise or something.

Does anyone else have chickens near you that are a little louder? Your girls could’ve heard them and thought the egg song was amazing and wanted their own egg sound.
Have you added anything new into the yard that they may see as a predator? Chickens don’t like change.

My group do that nonstop squawking when they see a hawk. I have to go outside and distract them to calm them down.

My neighbours do not have any poultry. I used to have translucent plastic sheeting covering the bottom 2 feet of the run which would keep snow out, but now that it is spring I took it down. They couldn’t see outside their run when on the ground (on their ramp they could though), so maybe this new outside view on the ground has something to do with it?

I think I agree with the egg songs! I have one that yacks for a long time for no reason. I check the coop and all that is there is an old broody hen sitting on the eggs that the young ones have laid. I sometimes wonder if the noisy one is just getting my attention. I do go out and talk to her when she is so obnoxious! She is about 4 yrs old. Not aggressive, just noisy at the same time every morning. Any ideas would be helpful!
