This spring a friend and I invested in some Sebastopol geese and we now have a flock of 11. It's quite a few geese and they make a terriffic mess! They are poop machines lol! Winter is coming, and we are concerned with how to keep their living area somewhat dry without having to clean every day :( ! We get LOTS of snow, temps down to -20 and a good bit of wind. Right now they hang out on the back portion of her lawn and enjoy the kiddie pool. BUT..... any advice for winter?????
Thanks!

My geese are split in to 2 "houses" for sleeping, bad storms, and nesting in the spring. The rest of the time they are outside.
They are just little barns full of straw. I don't keep feed and water inside of them unless I have to be gone overnight (which is really rare). Sometimes when it gets really bad in the winter I will put a big pan of feed and water as close to the door as possible, so only the straw closest to the door will get wet. You'd be amazed at how clean it stays when they do all of their drinking and bathing outside. If I cannot get in to shovel all the old straw out, I just add to it until I can so they have the fresh stuff to lay on. They don't dig like chickens do, so it will stay nice for a few days.

Most importantly- especially with sebbies- is to keep a place that is dry and draft free for them. Those feathers don't insulate the same way other goose feathers do.

This will be my first winter with geese, so I have yet to figure out what we're going to do. I've read that people use straw as bedding and then clean it out every week, but you might need to do it more frequently with 11 geese
