I’m from Kentucky, so always said Kai-o-tee growing up, but now I have friends that say it like Kai-oat, so I use whichever one fits the story better I feel like Kai-oat is a much more cowboy, homesteader way to say it. Lol
I frequently hear both ways used as well. When growing up, was taught to pronounce them "ky-oh-dee." Ive also heard them referred to as " yotes". Maybe "yote" is the Most cowboy, homesteader way to pronounce. Or maybe "yote" pronounciation is reserved for professional yote hunters, idk.
I usually say kai-oh-tee or yote but I think it’s mostly up to personal preference. The original pronunciation derived from the Nahuatl word coyōtl was pronounced kai-oh-tee if I remember correctly but it doesn’t really matter nowadays.
