Hello,
Looking for some guidance. I have 12 week old chicks that I finally moved full time to the outdoor coop a week ago. Before that, I was transferring them in and out because we had a heat wave with temps in the 111-113 range.
Thus week the temps have ranged from low 90s to 102. The coop is between 2 oak trees, so it is shaded pretty much all day, and when the temp topped 100, I added ice to their water and filled a wading pool with cool water in the afternoon. A little panting, but they did okay.
Next week, it’s supposed to hit 108 with humidity likely around 40%. Unfortunately, that coincides with a day I’ll be working in the office, so I won’t be home to monitor them, give them cold water, etc. I’m thinking of leaving them inside the house in my downstairs shower (where they were previously), but they won’t be happy about being there.
Thoughts? I’m not sure how hot is too hot at this age.
