5 eggs today, from all but Juin, who did her part. She took her place in the best nest box and kept the clegg (clay egg) nice and warm for hours…
Old Red does that at night, I keep her in a nest box safe and secure away from the crazy ladies. She goes in the box, and rolls the golf ball in there and tucks it under her, I guess she is hoping on hatching a putter…. 😆

Anywhoooo

21 lovely eggs today, have a splendid evening everyone!

I did a count of my 4+ yr old ladies last night. There are 13 old girls out there. My 4 silkies rarely lay an egg now but I have 5 otjer 4 yr old ladies who are laying a few eggs a week still.

My really old ladies who are 7+ yrs old are not laying eggs.

So I have a bunch of lawn ornaments it seems. But still, I am getting a good amt of eggs from the youngsters so far.

10 yesterday, only 7 today.

Your eggs are so GREEEEEN! What breeds do you have?
They are Easter eggers or maybe olive eggers from MurrayMcMurrayHatchery.com
McMurray Ameraucana Page

They were sold to us as Ameraucana, but we learned later that McMurray Ameraucanas are often, well, not Ameraucanas. 🤣
They lived through the winter like champs, and we find they are hardy, reliable birds. We always seem to find a different colored egg, and that's lots of fun for our son.

ETA: the photos don't do the eggs justice. There are some lovely blue, green, and I really need to buy (edited) that Ameraucana egg color chart!

My "green" eggs are sorta, kinda olive-ish or khaki and seem to change from day to day. I do get some really beautiful blue ones, but the greenish ones are kind of muddy. Love yours! Thanks for the reference but I've already ordered chicks for this year.

Three eggs so far today.
+ 1 broken
+ 11 in the carton
= 15 today.

What kind of chicks did you get?
I don't think we will buy chicks from McMurray again.
If we did buy chicks again, we want hardy birds but definitely friendlier. Our birds are skiddish (but that might also be from being attacked by some neighbors' dogs when they were younger).
ETA: the blue is better after they're washed, but that's right before cooking. 😋
