How many eggs do your Buff Orpingtons Lay a Week?

I am thinking about getting Buff Orpingtons to add to my little flock. Are they good layers? We have 2 Barred Rocks and 1 NH Red. They lay around 5 eggs a week each. I am looking for something comparable. Our feed store has Buff Orpingtons, and my kids are dying to get at least one.

Thanks!

Depends on their age. My four BO's are 2 1/2 years old and between the four of them I get one egg every other day.

I have 22 Buffs that are 29 weeks... and we have 3 RIRs, 2 Bantams and 2 EEs... everyone is not laying but we get anywhere from 18 - 24 eggs a day. I do know that our bantams give us about 3 - 4 eggs a week and 1 of our EE just started laying yesterday, the other is not laying yet... so the rest of the eggs are the buffs and RIR's

My four girls (30ish weeks) are fairly consistent now. Either 3 or 4 eggs a day.

I have 2 Buff O's and they lay everyday

My three Buffs lay 1 a day. Born 4/1/09. Am kind of dissappointed with the egg size though. Mine are on the smallish medium side, creamy tan to pinkish in color. My Marans on the other hand are laying jumbos almost daily. Only problem there is they started out dark and speckly and now are kind of med terra cotta...oh well.

Mine have been disappointing. I have two Buff Orpington's who are a year old and they only give me about 4 eggs per week combined. The eggs are quite small (averaging 53 grams) and for several weeks one consistently put up soft shelled eggs, whilst the other took 10 weeks off laying for no apparent reason. This is despite having a properly formulated layer pellet and additional calcium freely available.

They are beautiful birds, don't get me wrong. I used one to sit on a nest of eggs for me and she was a wonderful Momma. They are also gorgeous to look at, have lovely personalities and don't mind being loved on. They are noisy however, with mine being much like little old ladies - complaining all the time, and not quietly either!

In contrast, I have some Rhode Island Red Hens of the same age who put up 6 to 7 eggs per week each. They too have hatched chicks for me (great Mommas) and their eggs are larger, averaging 75 grams each They are less lovey but also much less upkeep - really stoic, solid layers. When the time came to add more birds, I added RIR's without hesitation.
