So, I went to check on my chickens this morning. I got three eggs, two brown ones from my golden sex links. To my surprise, the third was white.

Now, here’s the catch. None of my white laying hens are ready yet as far as I know. None of them are doing the squat. The only three that are doing the squat and haven’t laid yet are a Rhode Island red, a barred Plymouth Rock, and a buff Orpington.

The Rhode Island red and the barred Plymouth Rock lay brown eggs, but according to the Internet buff orpingtons lay brown eggs.

I also read that sometimes buff Orpington can lay white eggs.

So, could my buff Orpington have laid this? I’m a little stumped.

Can someone help me solve this mystery? Who laid this?

My flock consists of the following:

1 Austra White (laying)
2 golden sex links (both laying)
2 buff orpingtons (one squatting)
2 Rhode Island reds (one squatting)
2 barred Plymouth Rocks (one squatting)
2 amber whites
2 easter eggers

Our Orpington lays a very large, nearly white egg with just a very small hint of pinky-beige but hardly enough to notice. The more rounded end of her eggs is always a little rough with a thin shell, while the more pointed end is really good and solid. We have 4 other laying hens of different breeds and all their shells are solid. They all eat the same food but for some reason the orpington's egg always has a thinner shelled end.

My one Buff Orpington also lays eggs with this description. My other one, hasn't laid in a while (not sure why) was laying medium brown eggs, with a less rounded pointy end. I saw it happen or I would haven't have believed it. lol
