How many eggs do you guys usually get?

One of mine laid 24 eggs last year before stopping. Sadly only got one egg hatch because she sat on them for a week but then got off and after a couple of days when I put them in the incubator every time I candeled them I took some out. It was quite heartbreaking having to do that.

I’m still new to ducks, but I believe they vary a lot. Some don’t brood at all, while others do every season. I think it’s just a roll of the dice.
What breeds do you have?

They are the best. We’ve had trouble with foxes so we’ve lost quite a few over the years but we had so many a few years ago. We’re actually getting a purebred roan drake soon. We’re planning on breeding them for the table because we think Roan taste the best. Everything has to pay for his keep around here.

If you want a broody duck, get a muscovy. Every single one of my girls is broody at least twice a season. As far as how many eggs, I don't know as I'm always taking them away. But, they will sit on just about anything - they seem to get infatuated with a certain spot and even sit with no eggs, they will brood there until you close it off to them. I let one of my muscovy hatch chicken eggs. But, out of the 8 that she sat on only 2 survived. She wasn't really a good chicken mom. 😉
